About Dubai Zoo

Dubai zoo situated in Jumeirah is one of the oldest zoo in UAE. It is the oldest in the whole of Arabian Peninsula. It is the house of rare breed of chimps and wild cats of Arabia. Dubai zoo was established in the year 1967 by former ruler of Dubai Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Dubai zooAl Maktoum.

The management of the zoo is done by Dubai Municipality which took over the charge in the year 1971. The zoo consists of over 1000 animals in count and is a nice hang out place for tourists and locals to have fun in the midst of dubai shopping festival nature and is also good for kids to get a close view of animals. The Dubai zoo was the landmark of the place because it signified “town’s end”. Dubai zoo also have attractive aquarium house carrying fishes, reptiles and other aquatic life. Trekking

This island is ideal for trekking. Climb to the highest point of this island to enjoy the marvellous view of the island the surrounding scenic beauty. Your trekking path will go through jungles and water swamps. Do not try any unknown route; take a local guide if possible.

Tips for trekking

Buy Rs 250 permit from the forest department before exploring the lush green jungles. It is not required to buy the tickets before hand.

The forest department office is open from 6 am to 2 pm.

Guide is available at the Pristine Beach Resort for rupees 100. You can go all by yourself as well. The path here is well directed by sign board and paints on the trees so you will not get lost.

Food and drinks

Pristine Beach Resort is a very good place for food and drinks. The price of the food is quite affordable and the taste is very good. This beach resort has AC  as well as non AC cottages and the accommodation is quite comfortable with al the facilities that one can use.

Transportation

The transportation from Port Blair to Diglipur is by two ways; by road and ferry.

If you are going by the bus then you need to buy the tickets before starting your journey. The tickets are available at the shop just opposite the bus stand. These shops have all the information about the various destinations that you want to go by bus along with the fare for each.

If you are visiting the place by ferry then they run a number of toimes in a week and takes almost ten hours to reach the Diglipur island. Going by the ferry is a wonderful experience as you can enjoy the clear water and reachg yourdestination as well. Neil Island

Mount Harriet

Havelock Island

Havelock Island is the largest of the islands with an area of 113 kilometers that includes Archipelago, a chain of islands to the east of Andaman and great Andaman islands. The population of the islands stands at 5,354 as of the census of 2011.

The Island is named after a British General Mr. Henry Havelock who was based in India. The Island was also once home to an indigenous tribe who spoke Aka-Bale language.

Cellular Jail

Location- Andaman Islands, West Bengal, India

Built in the year- 1906

Built by- The Then British Government

Best means to reach- Andaman can be reached easily by taking a flight from major cities like Chennai, Calcutta (Kolkata), and Vishakhapatnam.

The one jail or imprisonment location that still sends a chill down the spine of not only prisoners but also common people is none other than that of Cellular Jail which is mostly known as Kala Pani.

It has been observed that the fear factor is very much present in the air of the jail as still the inmates and general visitors can easily a sense of fear engulfing them, reminding them of the sufferings the then prisoners were subjected to when the jail was functional.

The British built this prison and put all ‘dangerous’ prisoners to this jail from India to undergo severe torturous treatment. The jail was used till the year of 1857 to house prisoners but now is a protected monument and also stands as a classical testimony to the brutality and tortures meted out to ill-fated prisoners.

The Andaman Cellular Jail housed many famous freedom fighters including some hugely popular figures like Bhagat Singh, Sukh Dev, Rajguru, Batukeshwar Dutt, Bejoy Kumar Sinha, Shiv Verma, Jaidev Kapoor, Dr. Gaya Prasad, Kamal Nath Tiwari, Mahabir Singh amongst many others. Other than India, prisoners from Burma were also sent to the epic jail.

There ere seven wings of the jail and each of them was observed by a centrally stationed watchtower and a large bell used to rung in the event of an emergency. The jail was basically named Cellular Jail as a mater of the fact that the cells of the cell were placed in such a way that it leaved not at all a scope for inmates to communicate with each other.

The Cellular Jail has glorified itself as the ultimate jail in and around India whose name was enough to torment anyone.
